In 2002 the first Spotlight focused on the plight of women in Afghanistan during the reign of the Taliban. The intention was to unite women worldwide by showing the similarities between the experiences of the women of Afghanistan and those of women and girls all over the world. Over $250,000 was raised for the Afghan women. This money helped open schools and provide for education and healthcare.
